She has a number one selling book entitled ‘Another Way Out;’ a novel about a man trying to commit suicide which helped her pioneer a new form of treatment for depression – ‘The Haydn Treatment’ is now practised worldwide. She has her own fitness video, line of clothing and she graces the front of every magazine’

With the TV studios throwing thousands of pounds into Kathy’s 2000th Episode special, the nation is bursting to pay tribute to the Queen of the daytime television. Yet with an hour to go until they go live, Kathy is nowhere to be seen. The clock ticks down and the studio is sent into disarray – this is Kathy Haydn! She is never late for anything!

Concerned her chauffeur takes matters into his own hands and breaks down her front door. He gasps in horror – Kathy has vanished, her house has been turned upside down and the living room is littered with empty Vodka bottles and pills.

Who is Kathy Haydn?

To discover what we don’t know about Kathy Haydn, we must start with what we do.

Kathleen Haydn had a wretched beginning to her life. Her mother died when she was young leaving her with an abusive stepfather. Kathy ran away from home at the age of 16 and lived life on the streets, begging for handouts and selling her body for whatever money she could raise. She soon paid the price for this brush with prostitution when she was left pregnant and the teenage mum-to-be was taken to a women’s hostel.

It was there that she started to rebuild her life. Eventually she and her daughter moved from the hostel to a council flat and she began taking an interest in the social workers that had helped her struggle back from her life as a street urchin. She trained as a carer and later as a psychologist. By the age of 27, her struggle was over and she fought back by opening her own clinic specialising in ‘Mental health and well-being.’

She conducted herself with warmth and demureness and this obvious vocal compassion didn’t go unnoticed by one of her patients – a producer from a local radio station who wanted an Agony Aunt for a new call in show that they were forming. Kathy impressed at her audition and was given the role. It was later that year that her talent attracted the eyes of larger TV production companies and the roller coaster ride to becoming Britain’s number one celebrity had begun.

However, it wasn’t always a smooth ride. At the age of 32 the pressure of the limelight became too much for Kathy to handle and she became deflated and unhappy. It was at this point that she disappeared from the spotlight and lived in contemplative solitude with her now 15 year old daughter.

On her return, Kathy bounced back. She claimed that pressure had led her to the brink of despair and she never wanted to go down that dark path again. In fact, in her time away she had written her first novel, a story about a man coping with depression. The book, entitled ‘Another Way Out,’ when straight to number one in the bestseller list and is, to this day, considered to be the best friend and companion for anyone suffering from clinical depression. On the back of this book she was awarded her own TV show. Over the next ten years Kathy had the golden touch. Her programme, ‘The Real Kathy Haydn Show,’ became multi award winning and propelled her into the world of mega stardom.

All this, however, came crashing down on that fateful day in May. Kathy had disappeared, leaving a path of intrigue lingering on those around her like a dark shadow.

The question is simple – Where is Kathy?

The answer is never that straightforward. Kathy is a household name and a well travelled celebrity. The whole country knows her and yet a handful of people hold the clues that can solve her disappearance.

Kathy’s drive has always been the emotional well being of her public. A few years ago, when taking a break from the limelight, Kathy wrote her first novel entitled ‘Another Way Out.’ This novel dealt with depression and suicide but, rather than being written as a heavy handed factual piece, Kathy’s book was a simple story of a boy contemplating suicide and the methods he used to conquer his despair. ‘Another Way Out’ was a number one bestseller, both here and in the USA. This is perhaps Kathy’s most notable achievement. After years of studying depression and the triggers that cause it in her patients Kathy formulated a new treatment aimed specifically in changing the negative behaviour patterns in victims of depression. Her treatment goes directly against typical theories. If people are depressed you should not put them in a clinic, you should submerge them in fun. She also pioneered her own ‘reverse saturation’ theory for addictive behaviour based upon traditional cold turkey techniques. ‘The Haydn Treatment’ categorises patients into distinct groups (Group 1, Groups 2A, 2A1 and 2B and Groups 3A and 3B) and responds with treatment based on this measurable level of the disease’s manifestation.
